China is one of the space super powers. Nobody can take away from the early achievements of the former USSR, early and more recent US achievements and the smaller but important achievements of several other space organisations. But China is only the second to operate a lander and rover on Mars and the first to operate a lander and rover on the far side of the Moon. It's the only country with its own fully functioning space station.

here is the thing tho, while it's true that China will stoop very very low, steal everything from everybody else and ignore every concern in safety, etc, in the end what matters is the result. There are no asterisks in accomplishments, once you do it, you do it no matter what it took to get there.
We in the west put tons of hurdles before us, think about every concern and effectively just give our opponents an edge

All of this will be fantastic for all humans on earth. It's to bad this seems to be a "race" per nation. If intelligent life is found they are not going to see America's or China's they will just see humans from earth. I'm ranting. It would just be nice if we could all work together just for outer space.

Even the US couldn't put an astronaut on the Moon right now if they wanted to. Artemis has been a 8 year long stillbirth out of the corpse of the Constellation program, which itself replaced Bush's 'Vision for Space Exploration'. The US has been actively working on returning to the Moon for over 20 years and still doesn't have the capability to do that.
To be fair, China can't do that right now either. But they're still within their initial window of having a crewed landing before 2030.
Whichever nation extracts resources for the Moon first will have such a massive advantage over its competitors that the Apollo program will instantly become a fun but irrelevant footnote. And China seems to be inline to do that first.

A reporter asked a politician (I can’t remember if it was a senator or congressman) to the effect of ‘aren’t you worried China will build theirs own?’ His answer was ‘China makes T shirts not space stations’

I didn't know China had it's own space station. I didn't know China had 3D maps of the moon. They're definitely going to get to Mars before America gets back to the moon. When we get to Mars they'll be on Ceres and Titan. I've clearly been in an American silo unbeknownst to me.

As you mentioned, its the clear no 2 behind US and far above the no 3 which is debatable between Europe, USSR and India.
For the future plans, the solar power station is most likely going to be the most impressive if it works. China has moved to electrify its energy infrastructure in a very big way (ie such as electric motor vehicles) and this lines up perfectly to their petroleum independence policy.
