China’s foreign ministry has strongly criticised US Vice-President J.D. Vance’s comments, calling the Chinese ‘peasants’. In an interview with US television channel Fox News, Vance was asked about Washington’s swee tariffs on most trading partners, including an additional 34 per cent on Chinese imports. Defending the levies, Vance said, “We borrow money from Chinese peasants to buy the things those Chinese peasants manufacture.”

Calling them a peasant is incredibly disrespectful. If the Europeans want to experience peasant life, feel free to do so, but the Chinese already experienced it and chose not to go back.

China has 14 trillion in debt with a debt growth rate 10 fold compared to the US. Sure you have to consider chinas gdp growth rate, but i am not so sure if this debt is in terms of debr structure more healthy than the one of the US - probably worse.

I visted China a few years ago and was very impressed by how advanced it is. It's far ahead in some ways than the UK where i live (especially its amazing rail system). I was delighted to meet many highly intelligent, well informed and open minded people in China I'm sure that even many Americans will be outraged at such an ignorant and ill informed comment from someone supposed to represent their country.

I'm so embarrassed to be an American. Just how dumb can our politicians be? The thought of these idiots having access to nuclear weapons gives me chills. I implore the Chinese leadership not to give in and to continue to build a world that is safe, stable and respectful of all. Frankly, against an empire like America, only by working together with countries who have educated leadership and knowledgable populations who strive for peach and who look for win-win opportunities, can the long-term damage be mitigated.
